Savoring Success

O taste and see that the LORD [our God] is good; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man [person] who takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34:8 (Amplified Bible)

To savor is to taste and enjoy something completely. When you have a good meal, you taste it and enjoy it, savoring every moment of it! Savoring something allows you to use your thoughts and actions to increase the intensity, appreciation, and duration of a positive experience or emotion.

Everybody wants to be successful in the things they do, great or small. God also wants you to be well, do well, and succeed. God speaks to that in many places in the Bible, but here are two instances in which God makes his intentions for us very clear:

Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

3 John 1:2, “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”

Here are four things that will help you succeed, savor your success, and build on what you have done.

Be faithful in whatever (good things) you do.

Faithfulness and commitment are necessary for success. Slackers, half-steppers, and inconsistent workers will hardly succeed at anything. Put your head, heart, and hands into your work, and do your best. You are not ready for bigger things if you’re not faithful in smaller things (Mt. 25:23).

Be patient.

Success and failure are usually on the same road. Often you may fail before you succeed. Learn to work and wait. Good things don’t come easy, and your success may not be overnight. But if you stay focused and remain faithful, you will become fruitful in what you do.

Celebrate your success, great or small.

Take time to acknowledge your efforts and the fruits of your labor, then celebrate what you have accomplished. Don’t wait for the mountain-top moments; celebrate the elevations you reach as you climb your mountain. Celebration leads to motivation; and that will help you in life.

Remember what (and who) helped you to succeed.

Never forget the best practice and the good people that helped you succeed in your last endeavor. Even if your next thing is not the same as the last thing, what worked once may work again.

Don’t reinvent the wheel, just oil it. Increase your desire to succeed. Extend your appreciation for success. Savor your success.

Wisdom for this Week

Celebration helps with motivation, and motivation helps you succeed. So celebrate what you have already accomplished.
