In you, Lord, I have taken refuge… Do not be far from me, my God; come quickly, God, to help me. May my accusers perish in shame; may those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace. Psalm 71:1, 12-13 Read: Psalm 71:12-24 As a kid growing up, my favorite movies were the ones involving martial arts. While many movies with the good versus evil plot can stimulate emotions, the martial arts movies seem to depict this in a personal and powerful way. I would watch as the “main bad man” goes about inducing fear, inflicting pain, and engaging in acts of injustice. But the day of reckoning comes when the “main bad man” is confronted and eventually defeated by the “hero”! This ending always brings satisfaction and elation because in my mind, justice has been served. In Psalm 71 the writer calls out to God for help, and makes a plea for justice. God is a God of mercy and justice, and He will help you find a just resolution for every situation in your life. Since nobody knows God’s timetable, waiting on God can sometimes become a challenge. But God is faithful, God is able, and God can be trusted; so He is worth the wait. The protests that have erupted in the United States and around the world is a global cry for justice. Working and waiting for justice to be served can be frustrating and daunting, but this is good work that needs to be done. You cannot lead a full life and be your best self in an environment of racial inequality and injustice. So keep working, waiting, hoping, and trusting in God. Justice will be served. Prayer for the Week Dear God, I believe that racism and other forms of injustice are not part of your plan for my life. Please liberate our world from the sin and shame of racial inequality and injustice. Help me to do my part, even as you are faithful in all your ways. In Jesus name. Amen.
