There is a common proverbial saying, when it rains, it pours. This means that sometimes misfortunes, mishaps, or challenging situations tend to follow each other; or they could all be happening at the same time. That’s how it was in my world this week: one person in intensive care unit, another to urgent care, another rushed to emergency, another having legal problems, and then, the loss of my older brother, John. All of this happened within a few days. Indeed, sometimes when it rains, it pours!
Challenging situations, especially the ones that seem to be out of your control, can make you sad. Sadness will sink your spirit, pulling you downward in a valley of sorrow. Sorrowful emotions bring with it the pressures of helplessness and lack of strength. But the good news is this: there’s healing for your sorrow!
Everybody will experience something, at some time, that makes them feel sorrowful or sad. Even toddlers have their “sad” moments—whether it’s wet diapers or just not being able to get what they want! Sorrowful emotions can affect your mind, body, and spirit. Feeling sad is a common symptom of depression. While losing a loved one usually is a sad experience, many other things can lead to sorrow and sadness as well. But you have the power to overcome the burden of sadness, and find healing for your sorrow.
“I [Jesus] have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]” John 16:33.
“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5.
“And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be death; there will no longer be sorrow and anguish, or crying, or pain; for the former order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4.
The issues of life can bring sorrow and joy. Some days are better than others. Life happens. Yet in every moment, you can find strength to handle your situation.
God is your helper; and He will provide healing for your sorrow, and healing for your soul.
