I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:7
Read Luke 15:3-7
Written in 1678, John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress is a Christian allegory that is regarded as one of the most significant works of religious, theological fiction in English literature. Pilgrim’s Progress is about the Christian’s journey from his hometown (this world) to the Celestial City (Heaven). I read this novel and got a scary, dreaded view of Christianity. I know better now, but many still believe that Christianity is about rules, regulations, and boredom.
Although Christianity is considered a religion, it is really about a relationship—with God, and lived out with and amongst people. And celebration is a healthy habit of the Christian lifestyle. Celebration puts fun into the practice of faith, removes the boredom, reduces the stress, and develops your faith for a victorious life.
Jesus lets us know that our Christian journey should be occasioned, often, with celebrations when we reach out and help others find their way back to God. Yes, back to God because we all originated from the same Creator—regardless of what you believe at the moment. Says Jesus, “5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ (Luke 15:5-6). Your journey as a Christian can include seasons of celebrations as you encourage, reach out, and share with others about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
But it gets better. Jesus suggests to us that our celebration of a soul that is saved down here on earth, gives rise to a bigger celebration up there in Heaven. God throws a party in the high place of Heaven when one person comes home to God! Wow! That by itself is amazing! But when you consider the fact that you could be the one to initiate that party in glory, that becomes a double wow! Like, WOW! WOW!
Your earthly connections can lead to a heavenly celebration. Can you imagine what will happen in your life when you make Heaven happy? If you are responsible for the preparation and execution of a party in glory, God will make sure your life is soaked with his blessings; and you will be rejoicing and celebrating all the time! What a way to live!
I want to encourage you to notice people, build relationships with them and if necessary, help them find their way to God. And you do not need to be an “experienced” Christian, because the Holy Spirit will help you if you desire to help people. Do you know anyone who might need to be connected to God and his Church? If so, make the connection so that Heaven can begin the preparation for a heavenly celebration.
May God fill your life with joy and excitement as you help others to find their way home to Him.
